Asbjørn Sloth Tønnesen 047f340b36 net: sched: make skip_sw actually skip software
TC filters come in 3 variants:
- no flag (try to process in hardware, but fallback to software))
- skip_hw (do not process filter by hardware)
- skip_sw (do not process filter by software)

However skip_sw is implemented so that the skip_sw
flag can first be checked, after it has been matched.

IMHO it's common when using skip_sw, to use it on all rules.

So if all filters in a block is skip_sw filters, then
we can bail early, we can thus avoid having to match
the filters, just to check for the skip_sw flag.

This patch adds a bypass, for when only TC skip_sw rules
are used. The bypass is guarded by a static key, to avoid
harming other workloads.

There are 3 ways that a packet from a skip_sw ruleset, can
end up in the kernel path. Although the send packets to a
non-existent chain way is only improved a few percents, then
I believe it's worth optimizing the trap and fall-though
use-cases.

 Data rate measured on switch (Extreme X690), and DUT connected as

 Pktgen-dpdk was in range 36.6-37.7 Mpps 64B packets across all tests.

Michal Koutný b26577001a net/sched: Add helper macros with module names
The macros are preparation for adding module aliases en mass in a
separate commit.
Although it would be tempting to create aliases like cls-foo for name
cls_foo, this could not be used because modprobe utilities treat '-' and
'_' interchangeably.
In the end, the naming follows pattern of proto modules in linux/net.h.

Victor Nogueira b6a3c6066a net: sched: Make tc-related drop reason more flexible for remaining qdiscs
Incrementing on Daniel's patch[1], make tc-related drop reason more
flexible for remaining qdiscs - that is, all qdiscs aside from clsact.
In essence, the drop reason will be set by cls_api and act_api in case
any error occurred in the data path. With that, we can give the user more
detailed information so that they can distinguish between a policy drop
or an error drop.

Victor Nogueira fb2780721c net: sched: Move drop_reason to struct tc_skb_cb
Move drop_reason from struct tcf_result to skb cb - more specifically to
struct tc_skb_cb. With that, we'll be able to also set the drop reason for
the remaining qdiscs (aside from clsact) that do not have access to
tcf_result when time comes to set the skb drop reason.

Daniel Borkmann 54a59aed39 net, sched: Make tc-related drop reason more flexible
Currently, the kfree_skb_reason() in sch_handle_{ingress,egress}() can only
express a basic SKB_DROP_REASON_TC_INGRESS or SKB_DROP_REASON_TC_EGRESS reason.

Victor kicked-off an initial proposal to make this more flexible by disambiguating
verdict from return code by moving the verdict into struct tcf_result and
letting tcf_classify() return a negative error. If hit, then two new drop
reasons were added in the proposal, that is SKB_DROP_REASON_TC_INGRESS_ERROR
as well as SKB_DROP_REASON_TC_EGRESS_ERROR. Further analysis of the actual
error codes would have required to attach to tcf_classify via kprobe/kretprobe
to more deeply debug skb and the returned error.

In order to make the kfree_skb_reason() in sch_handle_{ingress,egress}() more
extensible, it can be addressed in a more straight forward way, that is: Instead
of placing the verdict into struct tcf_result, we can just put the drop reason
in there, which does not require changes throughout various classful schedulers
given the existing verdict logic can stay as is.

Then, SKB_DROP_REASON_TC_ERROR{,_*} can be added to the enum skb_drop_reason
to disambiguate between an error or an intentional drop. New drop reason error
codes can be added successively to the tc code base.

For internal error locations which have not yet been annotated with a
SKB_DROP_REASON_TC_ERROR{,_*}, the fallback is SKB_DROP_REASON_TC_INGRESS and
SKB_DROP_REASON_TC_EGRESS, respectively. Generic errors could be marked with a
SKB_DROP_REASON_TC_ERROR code until they are converted to more specific ones
if it is found that they would be useful for troubleshooting.

While drop reasons have infrastructure for subsystem specific error codes which
are currently used by mac80211 and ovs, Jakub mentioned that it is preferred
for tc to use the enum skb_drop_reason core codes given it is a better fit and
currently the tooling support is better, too.

With regards to the latter:

Add a small helper tcf_set_drop_reason() which can be used to set the drop reason

Naveen Mamindlapalli 9fe63d5f1d sch_htb: Allow HTB quantum parameter in offload mode
The current implementation of HTB offload returns the EINVAL error for
quantum parameter. This patch removes the error returning checks for
'quantum' parameter and populates its value to tc_htb_qopt_offload
structure such that driver can use the same.

Add quantum parameter check in mlx5 driver, as mlx5 devices are not capable
of supporting the quantum parameter when htb offload is used. Report error
if quantum parameter is set to a non-default value.

Paul Blakey 80cd22c35c net/sched: cls_api: Support hardware miss to tc action
For drivers to support partial offload of a filter's action list,
add support for action miss to specify an action instance to
continue from in sw.

CT action in particular can't be fully offloaded, as new connections
need to be handled in software. This imposes other limitations on
the actions that can be offloaded together with the CT action, such
as packet modifications.

Assign each action on a filter's action list a unique miss_cookie
which drivers can then use to fill action_miss part of the tc skb
extension. On getting back this miss_cookie, find the action
instance with relevant cookie and continue classifying from there.

Oz Shlomo 5246c896b8 net/sched: support per action hw stats
There are currently two mechanisms for populating hardware stats:
1. Using flow_offload api to query the flow's statistics.
   The api assumes that the same stats values apply to all
   the flow's actions.
   This assumption breaks when action drops or jumps over following
   actions.
2. Using hw_action api to query specific action stats via a driver
   callback method. This api assures the correct action stats for
   the offloaded action, however, it does not apply to the rest of the
   actions in the flow's actions array.

Extend the flow_offload stats callback to indicate that a per action
stats update is required.
Use the existing flow_offload_action api to query the action's hw stats.
In addition, currently the tc action stats utility only updates hw actions.
Reuse the existing action stats cb infrastructure to query any action
stats.

Vladimir Oltean 9adafe2b85 net/sched: move struct tc_mqprio_qopt_offload from pkt_cls.h to pkt_sched.h
Since mqprio is a scheduler and not a classifier, move its offload

Zhengchao Shao fe0df81df5 net/sched: cls_api: add helper for tc cls walker stats dump
The walk implementation of most tc cls modules is basically the same.
That is, the values of count and skip are checked first. If count is
greater than or equal to skip, the registered fn function is executed.
Otherwise, increase the value of count. So we can reconstruct them.

Paul Blakey 35d39fecbc net/sched: Enable tc skb ext allocation on chain miss only when needed
Currently tc skb extension is used to send miss info from
tc to ovs datapath module, and driver to tc. For the tc to ovs
miss it is currently always allocated even if it will not
be used by ovs datapath (as it depends on a requested feature).

Export the static key which is used by openvswitch module to
guard this code path as well, so it will be skipped if ovs
datapath doesn't need it. Enable this code path once
ovs datapath needs it.

Petr Machata 6b3efbfa4e net: sch_tbf: Add a graft command
As another qdisc is linked to the TBF, the latter should issue an event to
give drivers a chance to react to the grafting. In other qdiscs, this event
is called GRAFT, so follow suit with TBF as well.

Ahmed S. Darwish 50dc9a8572 net: sched: Merge Qdisc::bstats and Qdisc::cpu_bstats data types
The only factor differentiating per-CPU bstats data type (struct
gnet_stats_basic_cpu) from the packed non-per-CPU one (struct
gnet_stats_basic_packed) was a u64_stats sync point inside the former.
The two data types are now equivalent: earlier commits added a u64_stats
sync point to the latter.

Combine both data types into "struct gnet_stats_basic_sync". This
eliminates redundancy and simplifies the bstats read/write APIs.

Use u64_stats_t for bstats "packets" and "bytes" data types. On 64-bit
architectures, u64_stats sync points do not use sequence counter
protection.

In HTB offload mode, qdiscs of leaf classes are grafted to netdev
queues. sch_htb expects the dev_queue field of these qdiscs to point to
the corresponding queues. However, qdisc creation may fail, and in that
case noop_qdisc is used instead. Its dev_queue doesn't point to the
right queue, so sch_htb can lose track of used netdev queues, which will
cause internal inconsistencies.

This commit fixes this bug by keeping track of the netdev queue inside
struct htb_class. All reads of cl->leaf.q->dev_queue are replaced by the
new field, the two values are synced on writes, and WARNs are added to
assert equality of the two values.

The driver API has changed: when TC_HTB_LEAF_DEL needs to move a queue,
the driver used to pass the old and new queue IDs to sch_htb. Now that
there is a new field (offload_queue) in struct htb_class that needs to
be updated on this operation, the driver will pass the old class ID to
sch_htb instead (it already knows the new class ID).

Cong Wang 695176bfe5 net_sched: refactor TC action init API
TC action ->init() API has 10 parameters, it becomes harder
to read. Some of them are just boolean and can be replaced
by flags. Similarly for the internal API tcf_action_init()
and tcf_exts_validate().

This patch converts them to flags and fold them into
the upper 16 bits of "flags", whose lower 16 bits are still
reserved for user-space. More specifically, the following
kernel flags are introduced:

TCA_ACT_FLAGS_POLICE replace 'name' in a few contexts, to
distinguish whether it is compatible with policer.

TCA_ACT_FLAGS_BIND replaces 'bind', to indicate whether
this action is bound to a filter.

TCA_ACT_FLAGS_REPLACE  replaces 'ovr' in most contexts,
means we are replacing an existing action.

TCA_ACT_FLAGS_NO_RTNL replaces 'rtnl_held' but has the
opposite meaning, because we still hold RTNL in most
cases.

The only user-space flag TCA_ACT_FLAGS_NO_PERCPU_STATS is
untouched and still stored as before.

I have tested this patch with tdc and I do not see any
failure related to this patch.

Davide Caratti 3aa2605594 net/sched: store the last executed chain also for clsact egress
currently, only 'ingress' and 'clsact ingress' qdiscs store the tc 'chain
id' in the skb extension. However, userspace programs (like ovs) are able
to setup egress rules, and datapath gets confused in case it doesn't find
the 'chain id' for a packet that's "recirculated" by tc.
Change tcf_classify() to have the same semantic as tcf_classify_ingress()
so that a single function can be called in ingress / egress, using the tc
ingress / egress block respectively.

Maxim Mikityanskiy d03b195b5a sch_htb: Hierarchical QoS hardware offload
HTB doesn't scale well because of contention on a single lock, and it
also consumes CPU. This patch adds support for offloading HTB to
hardware that supports hierarchical rate limiting.

In the offload mode, HTB passes control commands to the driver using
ndo_setup_tc. The driver has to replicate the whole hierarchy of classes
and their settings (rate, ceil) in the NIC. Every modification of the
HTB tree caused by the admin results in ndo_setup_tc being called.

After this setup, the HTB algorithm is done completely in the NIC. An SQ
(send queue) is created for every leaf class and attached to the
hierarchy, so that the NIC can calculate and obey aggregated rate
limits, too. In the future, it can be changed, so that multiple SQs will
back a single leaf class.

ndo_select_queue is responsible for selecting the right queue that
serves the traffic class of each packet.

The data path works as follows: a packet is classified by clsact, the
driver selects a hardware queue according to its class, and the packet
is enqueued into this queue's qdisc.

This solution addresses two main problems of scaling HTB:

1. Contention by flow classification. Currently the filters are attached
to the HTB instance as follows:

It's possible to move classification to clsact egress hook, which is
thread-safe and lock-free:

    # tc filter add dev eth0 egress protocol ip flower dst_port 80
    action skbedit priority 1:10

This way classification still happens in software, but the lock
contention is eliminated, and it happens before selecting the TX queue,
allowing the driver to translate the class to the corresponding hardware
queue in ndo_select_queue.

Note that this is already compatible with non-offloaded HTB and doesn't
require changes to the kernel nor iproute2.

2. Contention by handling packets. HTB is not multi-queue, it attaches
to a whole net device, and handling of all packets takes the same lock.
When HTB is offloaded, it registers itself as a multi-queue qdisc,
similarly to mq: HTB is attached to the netdev, and each queue has its
own qdisc.

Some features of HTB may be not supported by some particular hardware,
for example, the maximum number of classes may be limited, the
granularity of rate and ceil parameters may be different, etc. - so, the
offload is not enabled by default, a new parameter is used to enable it:

    # tc qdisc replace dev eth0 root handle 1: htb offload

with rtnl lock held in current implementation. Moreover, attempting to call
them without rtnl lock would cause a warning down the call chain in
function __tcf_get_next_proto() that requires the lock to be held by
callers. Remove the 'rtnl_held' argument in order to simplify the code and
make rtnl lock requirement explicit.

Francis Laniel 9ca718743a Modify return value of nla_strlcpy to match that of strscpy.
nla_strlcpy now returns -E2BIG if src was truncated when written to dst.
It also returns this error value if dstsize is 0 or higher than INT_MAX.

For example, if src is "foo\0" and dst is 3 bytes long, the result will be:
1. "foG" after memcpy (G means garbage).
2. "fo\0" after memset.
3. -E2BIG is returned because src was not completely written into dst.

The callers of nla_strlcpy were modified to take into account this modification.

Petr Machata 55f656cdb8 net: sched: Do not drop root lock in tcf_qevent_handle()
Mirred currently does not mix well with blocks executed after the qdisc
root lock is taken. This includes classification blocks (such as in PRIO,
ETS, DRR qdiscs) and qevents. The locking caused by the packet mirrored by
mirred can cause deadlocks: either when the thread of execution attempts to
take the lock a second time, or when two threads end up waiting on each
other's locks.

The qevent patchset attempted to not introduce further badness of this
sort, and dropped the lock before executing the qevent block. However this
lead to too little locking and races between qdisc configuration and packet
enqueue in the RED qdisc.

Before the deadlock issues are solved in a way that can be applied across
many qdiscs reasonably easily, do for qevents what is done for the
classification blocks and just keep holding the root lock.

Petr Machata 3625750f05 net: sched: Introduce helpers for qevent blocks
Qevents are attach points for TC blocks, where filters can be put that are
executed when "interesting events" take place in a qdisc. The data to keep
and the functions to invoke to maintain a qevent will be largely the same
between qevents. Therefore introduce sched-wide helpers for qevent
management.

Currently, similarly to ingress and egress blocks of clsact pseudo-qdisc,
blocks attachment cannot be changed after the qdisc is created. To that
end, add a helper tcf_qevent_validate_change(), which verifies whether
block index attribute is not attached, or if it is, whether its value
matches the current one (i.e. there is no material change).

The function tcf_qevent_handle() should be invoked when qdisc hits the
"interesting event" corresponding to a block. This function releases root
lock for the duration of executing the attached filters, to allow packets
generated through user actions (notably mirred) to be reinserted to the
same qdisc tree.

This patch adds a drop frames counter to tc flower offloading.
Reporting h/w dropped frames is necessary for some actions.
Some actions like police action and the coming introduced stream gate
action would produce dropped frames which is necessary for user. Status
update shows how many filtered packets increasing and how many dropped
in those packets.

Extend tcf_action_dump() with boolean argument 'terse' that is used to
request terse-mode action dump. In terse mode only essential data needed to
identify particular action (action kind, cookie, etc.) and its stats is put
to resulting skb and everything else is omitted. Implement
tcf_exts_terse_dump() helper in cls API that is intended to be used to
request terse dump of all exts (actions) attached to the filter.

Petr Machata 0a7fad2376 net: sched: RED: Introduce an ECN nodrop mode
When the RED Qdisc is currently configured to enable ECN, the RED algorithm
is used to decide whether a certain SKB should be marked. If that SKB is
not ECN-capable, it is early-dropped.

It is also possible to keep all traffic in the queue, and just mark the
ECN-capable subset of it, as appropriate under the RED algorithm. Some
switches support this mode, and some installations make use of it.

To that end, add a new RED flag, TC_RED_NODROP. When the Qdisc is
configured with this flag, non-ECT traffic is enqueued instead of being
early-dropped.

TC multi chain configuration can cause offloaded tc chains to miss in
hardware after jumping to some chain. In such cases the software should
continue from the chain that missed in hardware, as the hardware may
have manipulated the packet and updated some counters.

Currently a single tcf classification function serves both ingress and
egress. However, multi chain miss processing (get tc skb extension on
hw miss, set tc skb extension on tc miss) should happen only on
ingress.

Refactor the code to use ingress classification function, and move setting
the tc skb extension from general classification to it, as a prestep
for supporting the hw miss scenario.

Cong Wang 2e24cd7555 net_sched: fix ops->bind_class() implementations
The current implementations of ops->bind_class() are merely
searching for classid and updating class in the struct tcf_result,
without invoking either of cl_ops->bind_tcf() or
cl_ops->unbind_tcf(). This breaks the design of them as qdisc's
like cbq use them to count filters too. This is why syzbot triggered
the warning in cbq_destroy_class().

In order to fix this, we have to call cl_ops->bind_tcf() and
cl_ops->unbind_tcf() like the filter binding path. This patch does
so by refactoring out two helper functions __tcf_bind_filter()
and __tcf_unbind_filter(), which are lockless and accept a Qdisc
pointer, then teaching each implementation to call them correctly.

Note, we merely pass the Qdisc pointer as an opaque pointer to
each filter, they only need to pass it down to the helper
functions without understanding it at all.
