"Not a huge amount of big things here, AMD has support for a few new HW
variants (vangogh, green sardine, dimgrey cavefish), Intel has some
more DG1 enablement. We have a few big reworks of the TTM layers and
interfaces, GEM and atomic internal API reworks cross tree. fbdev is
marked orphaned in here as well to reflect the current reality.

The controlfb driver has a number of dummy defines for IO operations.
They were introduced in commit a07a63b0e2
("video: fbdev: controlfb: add COMPILE_TEST support").
The write variants did not use their value parameter in the
dummy versions, resulting in set but not used warnings.
Fix this by adding "(void)val" to silence the compiler.

The driver core ignores the return value of struct device_driver::remove
because there is only little that can be done. For the shutdown callback
it's ps3_system_bus_shutdown() which ignores the return value.
To simplify the quest to make struct device_driver::remove return void,
let struct ps3_system_bus_driver::remove return void, too. All users
already unconditionally return 0, this commit makes it obvious that
returning an error code is a bad idea and ensures future users behave
accordingly.

It looks like SPARC64 requires FB_ATY_CT to build without errors,
so have FB_ATY select FB_ATY_CT if both SPARC64 and PCI are enabled
instead of using "default y if SPARC64 && PCI", which is not strong
enough to prevent build errors.
As it currently is, FB_ATY_CT can be disabled, resulting in build

Pull Hyper-V fix from Wei Liu:
"One patch from Dexuan to fix VRAM cache type in Hyper-V framebuffer
driver"
* tag 'hyperv-fixes-signed' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/hyperv/linux:
video: hyperv_fb: Fix the cache type when mapping the VRAM
x86 Hyper-V used to essentially always overwrite the effective cache type
of guest memory accesses to WB. This was problematic in cases where there
is a physical device assigned to the VM, since that often requires that
the VM should have control over cache types. Thus, on newer Hyper-V since
2018, Hyper-V always honors the VM's cache type, but unexpectedly Linux VM
users start to complain that Linux VM's VRAM becomes very slow, and it
turns out that Linux VM should not map the VRAM uncacheable by ioremap().
Fix this slowness issue by using ioremap_cache().
On ARM64, ioremap_cache() is also required as the host also maps the VRAM
cacheable, otherwise VM Connect can't display properly with ioremap() or
ioremap_wc().
With this change, the VRAM on new Hyper-V is as fast as regular RAM, so
it's no longer necessary to use the hacks we added to mitigate the
slowness, i.e. we no longer need to allocate physical memory and use
it to back up the VRAM in Generation-1 VM, and we also no longer need to
allocate physical memory to back up the framebuffer in a Generation-2 VM
and copy the framebuffer to the real VRAM. A further big change will
address these for v5.11.

So ever since syzbot discovered fbcon, we have solid proof that it's
full of bugs. And often the solution is to just delete code and remove
features, e.g. 50145474f6 ("fbcon: remove soft scrollback code").
Now the problem is that most modern-ish drivers really only treat
fbcon as an dumb kernel console until userspace takes over, and Oops
printer for some emergencies. Looking at drm drivers and the basic
vesa/efi fbdev drivers shows that only 3 drivers support any kind of
acceleration:
- nouveau, seems to be enabled by default
- omapdrm, when a DMM remapper exists using remapper rewriting for
y/xpanning
- gma500, but that is getting deleted now for the GTT remapper trick,
and the accelerated copyarea never set the FBINFO_HWACCEL_COPYAREA
flag, so unused (and could be deleted already I think).
No other driver supportes accelerated fbcon. And fbcon is the only
user of this accel code (it's not exposed as uapi through ioctls),
which means we could garbage collect fairly enormous amounts of code
if we kill this.
Plus because syzbot only runs on virtual hardware, and none of the
drivers for that have acceleration, we'd remove a huge gap in testing.
And there's no other even remotely comprehensive testing aside from
syzbot.
This patch here just disables the acceleration code by always
redrawing when scrolling. The plan is that once this has been merged
for well over a year in released kernels, we can start to go around
and delete a lot of code.

For user-provided fonts, the framebuffer layer is using a magic
negative-indexing macro, FNTCHARCNT(), to keep track of their number of
characters:
#define FNTCHARCNT(fd) (((int *)(fd))[-3])
For built-in fonts, it is using hard-coded values (256). This results in
something like the following:
map.length = (ops->p->userfont) ?
FNTCHARCNT(ops->p->fontdata) : 256;
This is unsatisfactory. In fact, there is already a `charcount` field in
our virtual console descriptor (see `struct console_font` inside `struct
vc_data`), let us use it:
map.length = vc->vc_font.charcount;
Recently we added a `charcount` field to `struct font_desc`. Use it to set
`vc->vc_font.charcount` properly. The idea is:
- We only use FNTCHARCNT() on `vc->vc_font.data` and `p->fontdata`.
Assume FNTCHARCNT() is working as intended;
- Whenever `vc->vc_font.data` is set, also set `vc->vc_font.charcount`
properly;
- We can now replace `FNTCHARCNT(vc->vc_font.data)` with
`vc->vc_font.charcount`;
- Since `p->fontdata` always point to the same font data buffer with
`vc->vc_font.data`, we can also replace `FNTCHARCNT(p->fontdata)` with
`vc->vc_font.charcount`.
In conclusion, set `vc->vc_font.charcount` properly in fbcon_startup(),
fbcon_init(), fbcon_set_disp() and fbcon_do_set_font(), then replace
FNTCHARCNT() with `vc->vc_font.charcount`. No more if-else between
negative-indexing macros and hard-coded values.
Do not include <linux/font.h> in fbcon_rotate.c and tileblit.c, since they
no longer need it.

.con_font_set and .con_font_default callbacks should not pass `struct
console_font *` as a parameter, since `struct console_font` is a UAPI
structure.
We are trying to let them use our new kernel font descriptor, `struct
font_desc` instead. To make that work slightly easier, first delete all of
their no-op implementations used by dummy consoles.
This will make KD_FONT_OP_SET and KD_FONT_OP_SET_DEFAULT ioctl() requests
on dummy consoles start to fail and return `-ENOSYS`, which is intended,
since no user should ever expect such operations to succeed on dummy
consoles.

The previous behavior was a little unexpected, its properties/problems:
1. It was designed to generate strictly increasing values (no repeats)
2. It had quantization errors when calculating step size. Resulting in
unexpected jumps near the end of some segments.
Example settings:
brightness-levels = <0 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256>;
num-interpolated-steps = <16>;
Whenever num-interpolated-steps was larger than the distance
between 2 consecutive brightness levels the table would get really
discontinuous. The slope of the interpolation would stick with
integers only and if it was 0 the whole line segment would get skipped.
The distances between 1 2 4 and 8 would be 1 (property #1 fighting us),
and only starting with 16 it would start to interpolate properly.
Property #1 is not enough. The goal here is more than just monotonically
increasing. We should still care about the shape of the curve. Repeated
points might be desired if we're in the part of the curve where we want
to go slow (aka slope near 0).
Problem #2 is plainly a bug. Imagine if the 64 entry was 63 instead,
the calculated slope on the 32-63 segment will be almost half as it
should be.
The most expected and simplest algorithm for interpolation is linear
interpolation, which would handle both problems.
Let's just implement that!
Take pairs of points from the brightness-levels array and linearly
interpolate between them. On the X axis (what userspace sees) we'll
now have equally sized intervals (num-interpolated-steps sized,
as opposed to before where we were at the mercy of quantization).

Pull ARM SoC platform updates from Olof Johansson:
"SoC changes, a substantial part of this is cleanup of some of the
older platforms that used to have a bunch of board files.
In particular:
- Remove non-DT i.MX platforms that haven't seen activity in years,
it's time to remove them.
- A bunch of cleanup and removal of platform data for TI/OMAP
platforms, moving over to genpd for power/reset control (yay!)
- Major cleanup of Samsung S3C24xx and S3C64xx platforms, moving them
closer to multiplatform support (not quite there yet, but getting
close).
There are a few other changes too, smaller fixlets, etc. For new
platform support, the primary ones are:
- New SoC: Hisilicon SD5203, ARM926EJ-S platform.
- Cpufreq support for i.MX7ULP"

The error happens when the pixels value is calculated before performing the sanity checks on bits_per_pixel.
A bits_per_pixel set to zero causes divide by zero error.
This patch moves the calculation after the sanity check.

This is a major rework of the sticon (parisc text console) driver in
order to support user font support.
Usually one want to use the stifb (parisc framebuffer driver) which is
based on fbcon and does support fonts and colors, but some old machines
(e.g. HP 730 workstations) don't provide a supported stifb graphic card,
and for those user fonts are preferred.
This patch drops unused code for software cursor and scrollback,
enhances the debug output and adds better documentation.
The code was tested on various machines with byte-mode and word-mode
graphic cards on GSC- and PCI-busses.

If the ROM provides functional STI routines, always register the sticon
driver, even if the serial console was choosen as boot device.
Additionally, in that case, do not make the sticon driver the default
output console device.

On gen2 HyperV VM, hyperv_fb will remove the old framebuffer, and the
new allocated framebuffer address could be at a differnt location,
and it might be no longer a VGA framebuffer.
Update screen_info so that after kexec the kernel won't try to reuse

Also partially revert the follow-up change "drm: pl111: Absorb the
external register header".
This reverts the parts of commits
7e4e589db7 and
0fb8125635 that touch paths outside
of drivers/gpu/drm/pl111.
The fbdev driver is used by Android's FVP configuration. Using the
DRM driver together with DRM's fbdev emulation results in a failure
to boot Android. The root cause is that Android's generic fbdev
userspace driver relies on the ability to set the pixel format via
FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO, which is not supported by fbdev emulation.
There have been other less critical behavioral differences identified
between the fbdev driver and the DRM driver with fbdev emulation. The
DRM driver exposes different values for the panel's width, height and
refresh rate, and the DRM driver fails a FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO syscall
with yres_virtual greater than the maximum supported value instead
of letting the syscall succeed and setting yres_virtual based on yres.

drivers/video/console/newport_con.c is borrowing FONT_EXTRA_WORDS macros
from drivers/video/fbdev/core/fbcon.h. To keep things simple, move all
definitions into <linux/font.h>.
Since newport_con now uses four extra words, initialize the fourth word in

drivers/video/fbdev/aty/atyfb.h for respective callbacks.
This resulted in error for implicit declaration for those callbacks.

syzbot is reporting OOB read at fbcon_resize() [1], for
commit 39b3cffb8c ("fbcon: prevent user font height or width change
from causing potential out-of-bounds access") is by error using
registered_fb[con2fb_map[vc->vc_num]]->fbcon_par->p->userfont (which was
set to non-zero) instead of fb_display[vc->vc_num].userfont (which remains
zero for that display).
We could remove tricky userfont flag [2], for we can determine it by
comparing address of the font data and addresses of built-in font data.
But since that commit is failing to fix the original OOB read [3], this
patch keeps the change minimal in case we decide to revert altogether.

Yunhai Zhang recently fixed a VGA software scrollback bug in commit
ebfdfeeae8 ("vgacon: Fix for missing check in scrollback handling"),
but that then made people look more closely at some of this code, and
there were more problems on the vgacon side, but also the fbcon software
scrollback.
We don't really have anybody who maintains this code - probably because
nobody actually _uses_ it any more. Sure, people still use both VGA and
the framebuffer consoles, but they are no longer the main user
interfaces to the kernel, and haven't been for decades, so these kinds
of extra features end up bitrotting and not really being used.
So rather than try to maintain a likely unused set of code, I'll just
aggressively remove it, and see if anybody even notices. Maybe there
are people who haven't jumped on the whole GUI badnwagon yet, and think
it's just a fad. And maybe those people use the scrollback code.
If that turns out to be the case, we can resurrect this again, once
we've found the sucker^Wmaintainer for it who actually uses it.

This (and the VGA soft scrollback) turns out to have various nasty small
special cases that nobody really is willing to fight. The soft
scrollback code was really useful a few decades ago when you typically
used the console interactively as the main way to interact with the
machine, but that just isn't the case any more.
So it's not worth dragging along.

Drivers using legacy PCI power management .suspend()/.resume() callbacks
have to manage PCI states and device's PM states themselves. They also
need to take care of standard configuration registers.
Switch to generic power management framework using a "struct dev_pm_ops"
variable to take the unnecessary load from the driver.
This also avoids the need for the driver to directly call most of the PCI
helper functions and device power state control functions, as through
the generic framework PCI Core takes care of the necessary operations,
and drivers are required to do only device-specific jobs.

Fixes commit 42ddb453a0 ("radeon: Conditionally compile PM code")
Before the above mentioned patch, codes between the line number 547 and
2803 were already inside "#ifdef CONFIG_PM" container. Thus, addition of
"#if defined(CONFIG_PM)" was not required in the patch. It also affected
the "#ifdef CONFIG_PPC_OF" container (line 1943-2510).
From the current snapshot of radeon_pm.c, remove:
1434 | #if defined(CONFIG_PM)
and,
2213 | #endif
This removes the redundant CONFIG_PM directive as well as fixes the
CONFIG_PPC (earlier CONFIG_PPC_OF) container.

Thus, the code checked for "if (state.event == PM_EVENT_FREEZE....)". This
is because, in the legacy framework, this callback was invoked even in the
event of Freeze. Hence, added the load of unnecessary function-call.
The goal can be achieved by binding the callback with only ".suspend" and

step of checking "state.event == PM_EVENT_FREEZE" every time the callback

Drivers should do only device-specific jobs. But in general, drivers using
legacy PCI PM framework for .suspend()/.resume() have to manage many PCI
PM-related tasks themselves which can be done by PCI Core itself. This
brings extra load on the driver and it directly calls PCI helper functions
to handle them.
Switch to the new generic framework by updating function signatures and
define a "struct dev_pm_ops" variable to bind PM callbacks. Also, remove
unnecessary calls to the PCI Helper functions along with the legacy
.suspend & .resume bindings.
Now,
- nvidiafb_suspend() had a "pm_message_t" type parameter as per legacy
PCI PM framework that got deprecated in generic.
- Rename the callback as nvidiafb_suspend_late() and preserve the

* nvidiafb_hibernate()

The via_suspend() is designed to function only in the case of Suspend.
Thus, the code checked for "if (state.event != PM_EVENT_SUSPEND)". This is
because, in the legacy framework, this callback was invoked even in the
event of Freeze and Hibernate. Hence, added the load of unnecessary
function-calls.
The goal can be achieved by binding the callback with only
"via_pm_ops.suspend" in the new framework. This also avoids the step of
checking "if (state.event != PM_EVENT_SUSPEND)" every time the callback is
invoked.

Clang static analysis reports this representative error
init.c:2501:18: warning: Array access (from variable 'queuedata') results
in a null pointer dereference
templ |= ((queuedata[i] & 0xc0) << 3);
This is the problem block of code
if(ModeNo > 0x13) {
...
if(SiS_Pr->ChipType == SIS_730) {
queuedata = &FQBQData730[0];
} else {
queuedata = &FQBQData[0];
}
} else {
}
queuedata is not set in the else block
Reviewing the old code, the arrays FQBQData730 and FQBQData were
used directly.
So hoist the setting of queuedata out of the if-else block.

A fb_ioctl() FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO call with invalid xres setting
or yres setting in struct fb_var_screeninfo will result in a
KASAN: vmalloc-out-of-bounds failure in bitfill_aligned() as
the margins are being cleared. The margins are cleared in
chunks and if the xres setting or yres setting is a value of
zero upto the chunk size, the failure will occur.
Add a margin check to validate xres and yres settings.
