Octavian Purdila 8d88bbffcb usbnet: mcs7830: rework link state detection
Even with the quirks in commit dabdaf0c (mcs7830: Fix link state
detection) there are still spurious link-down events for some chips
where the false link-down events count go over a few hundreds.

This patch takes a more conservative approach and only looks at
link-down events where the link-down state is not combined with other
states (e.g. half/full speed, pending frames in SRAM or TX status
information valid). In all other cases we assume the link is up.

Tested on MCS7830CV-DA (USB ID 9710:7830).

Peter Korsgaard 4263c86dca dm9601: work around tx fifo sync issue on dm962x
Certain dm962x revisions contain an bug, where if a USB bulk transfer retry
(E.G. if bulk crc mismatch) happens right after a transfer with odd or
maxpacket length, the internal tx hardware fifo gets out of sync causing
the interface to stop working.

Work around it by adding up to 3 bytes of padding to ensure this situation
cannot trigger.

This workaround also means we never pass multiple-of-maxpacket size skb's
to usbnet, so the length adjustment to handle usbnet's padding of those can
be removed.

Jeff Kirsher 9cb00073d7 usb: Fix FSF address in file headers
Several files refer to an old address for the Free Software Foundation
in the file header comment.  Resolve by replacing the address with
the URL <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/> so that we do not have to keep
updating the header comments anytime the address changes.

hayeswang dd1b119c83 r8152: support stopping/waking tx queue
The maximum packet number which a tx aggregation buffer could contain
is the tx_qlen.

	tx_qlen = buffer size / (packet size + descriptor size).

If the tx buffer is empty and the queued packets are more than the
maximum value which is defined above, stop the tx queue. Wake the
tx queue if tx queue is stopped and the queued packets are less than
tx_qlen.

hayeswang 6159878858 r8152: modify the tx flow
Remove the code for sending the packet in the rtl8152_start_xmit().
Let rtl8152_start_xmit() to queue the packet only, and schedule a
tasklet to send the queued packets. This simplify the code and make
sure all the packet would be sent by the original order.

hayeswang 7937f9e514 r8152: fix tx/rx memory overflow
The tx/rx would access the memory which is out of the desired range.
Modify the method of checking the end of the memory to avoid it.

For r8152_tx_agg_fill(), the variable remain may become negative.
However, the declaration is unsigned, so the while loop wouldn't
break when reaching the end of the desied memory. Although to change
the declaration from unsigned to signed is enough to fix it, I also
modify the checking method for safe. Replace

		remain = rx_buf_sz - sizeof(*tx_desc) -
			 (u32)((void *)tx_data - agg->head);

with

		remain = rx_buf_sz - (int)(tx_agg_align(tx_data) - agg->head);

to make sure the variable remain is always positive. Then, the
overflow wouldn't happen.

For rx_bottom(), the rx_desc should not be used to calculate the
packet length before making sure the rx_desc is in the desired range.
Change the checking to two parts. First, check the descriptor is in
the memory. The other, using the descriptor to find out the packet
length and check if the packet is in the memory.

Dan Carpenter 64b8c8e573 net: cdc_ncm: cleanup a type issue in cdc_ncm_setup()
This is harmless but cdc_ncm_setup() returns negative error codes
truncated to u8 values.  There is only one caller and treats all
non-zero returns as errors but doesn't store the the return code.  So
the code works correctly but it's messy and upsets the static checkers.

Felix Fietkau 52f48d0d9a usbnet: fix status interrupt urb handling
Since commit 7b0c5f21f3
"sierra_net: keep status interrupt URB active", sierra_net triggers
status interrupt polling before the net_device is opened (in order to
properly receive the sync message response).

To be able to receive further interrupts, the interrupt urb needs to be
re-submitted, so this patch removes the bogus check for netif_running().

whilst another changed "printk(KERN_INFO" into "pr_info(".

Lastly, the emulex change was a new inline function addition overlapping
with Joe Perches's extern removals.

Bjørn Mork a6fe67087d net: cdc_ncm: no not set tx_max higher than the device supports
There are MBIM devices out there reporting

  dwNtbInMaxSize=2048 dwNtbOutMaxSize=2048

and since the spec require a datagram max size of at least
2048, this means that a full sized datagram will never fit.

Still, sending larger NTBs than the device supports is not
going to help.  We do not have any other options than either
 a) refusing to bindi, or
 b) respect the insanely low value.

Alternative b will at least make these devices work, so go
for it.

Rewriting the "set max datagram" part of dc_ncm_setup to
separate the selection and validatation of the size from
the code which optionally informs the device of this
value.  This ensures that we use the correct value

to make the code more readable.

Padding NTBs to max size is part of the support for devices
optimizing their DMA transfers. This optimization depends on
max sized NTBs not being ZLP terminated. So we are much better
off dropping the padding if we are going to send a ZLP anyway.

Bjørn Mork f3028c524a net: cdc_ncm: remove tx_speed and rx_speed fields
These fields are only used to prevent printing the same speeds
multiple times if we receive multiple identical speed notifications.

The value of these printk's is questionable, and even more so when
we filter out some of the notifications sent us by the firmware. If
we are going to print any of these, then we should print them all.

Removing little used fields is a bonus.

creating subtle bugs whenever we forget to syncronize them all.

As a usbnet driver, we should stick with the standard struct

Bjørn Mork 20572226fc net: cdc_ncm: simplify and optimize frame padding
We can avoid the costly division for the common case where
we pad the frame to tx_max size as long as we ensure that
tx_max is either the device specified dwNtbOutMaxSize or not
a multiplum of wMaxPacketSize.

Using the preconverted 'maxpacket' field avoids converting
wMaxPacketSize to CPU endianness for every transmitted frame

And since we only will hit the one byte padding rule for short
frames, we can drop testing the skb for tailroom.

The change means that tx_max now represents the real maximum
skb size, enabling us to allocate the correct size instead of
always making room for one extra byte.

Bjørn Mork c1a2e95435 net: cdc_mbim: change the default to send ZLPs
A number of devices in the wild have turned out to require ZLPs.
Even if this is a spec violation, our priority is to make any
device work as good as possible. Devices needing ZLPs will fail
to receive any full sized frame we send. On the other hand,
devices which do not need the ZLP will still work if we send
them.

This gives us no other option than sending ZLPs by default.

This will prevent devices conforming to the spec from making the
optimizations which are possible without ZLPs.  Adding known
such devices to a whitelist, to avoid the possible negative
impact of the new spec violating default.

Bjørn Mork 5b8f15f78e net: cdc_mbim: handle IPv6 Neigbor Solicitations
MBIM is a point-to-point protocol transporting raw IP packets
with no L2 headers. Only IPv4 and IPv6 are supported. ARP in
particular is not, which is quite logical given the lack of
L2 headers.

The driver still emulates an ethernet interface, dropping all
unsupported protocols, and avoiding neigbour resolving by
setting the IFF_NOARP flag.

The MBIM specification does not explicitly forbid IPv6 Neighbor
Discovery, and it seems the other OS support will respond to
Neighbor Solicitations on MBIM links. There are therefore
buggy devices out there, which despite the pointlessness, still
require Neighbor Discovery for IPv6 over MBIM.

This is incompatible with the IFF_NOARP flag which disables
both ARP and ND.  We cannot support ARP in any case, so we
have to keep that flag. This patch implements a workaround
for the buggy devices, letting the driver respond directly
to Neighbor Solicitations from the device.

This is not optimal, but will have minimal effect on any sane
device.

Ming Lei 60e453a940 USBNET: fix handling padding packet
Commit 638c5115a7949(USBNET: support DMA SG) introduces DMA SG
if the usb host controller is capable of building packet from
discontinuous buffers, but missed handling padding packet when
building DMA SG.

This patch attachs the pre-allocated padding packet at the
end of the sg list, so padding packet can be sent to device
if drivers require that.

Bjørn Mork 0470667caa net: qmi_wwan: add new Qualcomm devices
Adding the device list from the Windows driver description files
included with a new Qualcomm MDM9615 based device, "Alcatel-sbell
ASB TL131 TDD LTE", from China Mobile.  This device is tested
and verified to work.  The others are assumed to work based on
using the same Windows driver.

Many of these devices support multiple QMI/wwan ports, requiring
multiple interface matching entries.  All devices are composite,
providing a mix of one or more serial, storage or Android Debug
Brigde functions in addition to the wwan function.

This device list included an update of one previously known device,
which was incorrectly assumed to have a Gobi 2K layout.  This is
corrected.

Rob Gardner 03803a59e3 net: usb: Add HP hs2434 device to ZLP exception table
This patch adds another entry (HP hs2434 Mobile Broadband) to the list
of exceptional devices that require a zero length packet in order to
function properly. This list was added in commit 844e88f0. The hs2434
is manufactured by Sierra Wireless, who also produces the MC7710,
which the ZLP exception list was created for in the first place. So
hopefully it is just this one producer's devices that will need this
workaround.

Tested on a DM1-4310NR HP notebook, which does not function without this
change.

hayeswang ebc2ec484d net/usb/r8152: support aggregation
Enable the tx/rx aggregation which could contain one or more packets
for each bulk in/out. This could reduce the loading of the host
controller by sending less bulk transfer.

The rx packets in the bulk in buffer should be 8-byte aligned, and
the tx packets in the bulk out buffer should be 4-byte aligned.

Ming Lei 3804fad454 USBNET: ax88179_178a: enable tso if usb host supports sg dma
This patch enables 'can_dma_sg' flag for ax88179_178a device
if the attached host controller supports building packet from
discontinuous buffers(DMA SG is possible), so TSO can be enabled
and skb fragment buffers can be passed to usb stack via urb->sg
directly.

With the patch, system CPU utilization decreased ~50% and throughput
increased by ~10% when doing iperf client test on one ARM A15 dual
core board.

Eric Dumazet f27070158d ax88179_178a: avoid copy of tx tcp packets
ax88179_tx_fixup() has quite complex code trying to push 8 bytes
of control data (len/mss), but fails to do it properly for TCP packets,
incurring an extra copy and point of memory allocation failure.

Lets use the simple and approved way.

dev->needed_headroom being 8, all frames should have 8 bytes of
headroom, so the extra copy should be unlikely anyway.

This patch should improve performance for TCP xmits.

Ming Lei 452c447a49 USBNET: increase max rx/tx qlen for improving USB3 thoughtput
The default RX_QLEN()/TX_QLEN() didn't consider super speed
USB device, so only max 4 URBs are scheduled at the same time
for tx/rx, then USB3 NIC can't perform very well.

With this patch, both rx and tx thoughput are increased more than
100Mbps when doing iperf test on ax88179_178a USB 3.0 NIC.

Ming Lei a88c32ae15 USBNET: centralize computing of max rx/tx qlen
This patch centralizes computing of max rx/tx qlen, because:

- RX_QLEN()/TX_QLEN() is called in hot path
- computing depends on device's usb speed, now we have ls/fs, hs, ss,
so more checks need to be involved
- in fact, max rx/tx qlen should not only depend on device USB
speed, but also depend on ethernet link speed, so we need to
consider that in future.
- if SG support is done, max tx qlen may need change too

Generally, hard_mtu and rx_urb_size are changed in bind(), reset()
and link_reset() callback, and change mtu network operation, this
patches introduces the API of usbnet_update_max_qlen(), and calls
it in above path.

Eric Dumazet 20f0170377 usbnet: do not pretend to support SG/TSO
usbnet doesn't support yet SG, so drivers should not advertise SG or TSO
capabilities, as they allow TCP stack to build large TSO packets that
need to be linearized and might use order-5 pages.

This adds an extra copy overhead and possible allocation failures.

Current code ignore skb_linearize() return code so crashes are even
possible.

Best is to not pretend SG/TSO is supported, and add this again when/if
usbnet really supports SG for devices who could get a performance gain.

Bjørn Mork 1fc4c84d49 net: cdc_ether: allow combined control and data interface
Some Icera based Huawei modems handled by this driver are not
completely CDC ECM compliant, using the same USB interface for both
control and data. The CDC functional descriptors include a Union
naming this interface as both master and slave, so it is supportable
by relaxing the descriptor parsing in case these interfaces are
identical.

This has been tested on a Huawei K3806 and verified to add support
for that device.

Bjørn Mork 5a008ffa73 net: qmi_wwan: fixup Sierra Wireless MC8305 entry
The MC8305 module got an additional entry added based solely on
information from a Windows driver *.inf file. We now have the
actual descriptor layout from one of these modules, and it
consists of two alternate configurations where cfg #1 is a
normal Gobi 2k layout and cfg #2 is MBIM only, using interface
numbers 5 and 6 for MBIM control and data. The extra Windows
driver entry for interface number 5 was most likely a bug.

Deleting the bogus entry to avoid unnecessary qmi_wwan probe
failures when using the MBIM configuration.

Ben Hutchings a1606c7dc6 net: Move MII out from under NET_CORE and hide it

depends on it.  This is a bit ridiculous because NET_CORE is just a

The ath9k Kconfig conflict was a change of a Kconfig option name right
next to the deletion of another option.

The xen-netback conflict was overlapping changes involving the
handling of the notify list in xen_netbk_rx_action().

Batman conflict resolution provided by Antonio Quartulli, basically
keep everything in both conflict hunks.

The nl80211 conflict is a little more involved.  In 'net' we added a
dynamic memory allocation to nl80211_dump_wiphy() to fix a race that
Linus reported.  Meanwhile in 'net-next' the handlers were converted
to use pre and post doit handlers which use a flag to determine
whether to hold the RTNL mutex around the operation.

However, the dump handlers to not use this logic.  Instead they have
to explicitly do the locking.  There were apparent bugs in the
conversion of nl80211_dump_wiphy() in that we were not dropping the
RTNL mutex in all the return paths, and it seems we very much should
be doing so.  So I fixed that whilst handling the overlapping changes.

To simplify the initial returns, I take the RTNL mutex after we try
to allocate 'tb'.

Bjørn Mork c2020be3c3 qmi_wwan/cdc_ether: let qmi_wwan handle the Huawei E1820
Another QMI speaking Qualcomm based device, which should be
driven by qmi_wwan, while cdc_ether should ignore it.

Like on other Huawei devices, the wwan function can appear
either as a single vendor specific interface or as a CDC ECM
class function using separate control and data interfaces.
The ECM control interface protocol is 0xff, likely in an
attempt to indicate that vendor specific management is
required.

In addition to the near standard CDC class, Huawei also add
vendor specific AT management commands to their firmwares.
This is probably an attempt to support non-Windows systems
using standard class drivers.  Unfortunately, this part of
the firmware is often buggy.  Linux is much better off using
whatever native vendor specific management protocol the
device offers, and Windows uses, whenever possible. This
means QMI in the case of Qualcomm based devices.

The E1820 has been verified to work fine with QMI.

Matching on interface number is necessary to distiguish the
wwan function from serial functions in the single interface
mode, as both function types will have class/subclass/function
set to ff/ff/ff.

The control interface number does not change in CDC ECM mode,
so the interface number matching rule is sufficient to handle
both modes.  The cdc_ether blacklist entry is only relevant in
CDC ECM mode, but using a similar interface number based rule
helps document this as a transfer from one driver to another.

Other Huawei 02/06/ff devices are left with the cdc_ether driver
because we do not know whether they are based on Qualcomm chips.
The Huawei specific AT command management is known to be somewhat
hardware independent, and their usage of these class codes may
also be independent of the modem hardware.

Petko Manolov 4d12997a9b drivers: net: usb: rtl8150: concurrent URB bugfix
This patch fixes a potential race with concurrently running asynchronous
write requests.  The values for device's RX control register are now
stored in dynamically allocated buffers so each URB submission has it's
own copy.  Doing it the old way is data clobbering prone.

This patch is against latest 'net' tree.

Dan Williams 7b0c5f21f3 sierra_net: keep status interrupt URB active
The driver and firmware sync up through SYNC messages, and the
firmware's affirmative reply to these SYNC messages appears to be the
"Reset" indication received via the status interrupt endpoint.  Thus the
driver needs the status interrupt endpoint always active so that the
Reset indication can be received even if the netdev is closed, which is
the case right after device insertion.

If the Reset indication is not received by the driver, it continues
sending SYNC messages to the firmware, which crashes about 10 seconds
later and the device stops responding.

Dan Williams 6eecdc5f95 usbnet: allow status interrupt URB to always be active
Some drivers (sierra_net) need the status interrupt URB
active even when the device is closed, because they receive
custom indications from firmware.  Add functions to refcount
the status interrupt URB submit/kill operation so that
sub-drivers and the generic driver don't fight over whether
the status interrupt URB is active or not.

A sub-driver can call usbnet_status_start() at any time, but
the URB is only submitted the first time the function is
called.  Likewise, when the sub-driver is done with the URB,
it calls usbnet_status_stop() but the URB is only killed when
all users have stopped it.  The URB is still killed and
re-submitted for suspend/resume, as before, with the same
refcount it had at suspend.

It is easily reproducable by setting an MTU of 512 e. g. and sending
something like

from another box.

And this is because the rx->ax_skb is freed on error, but rx->ax_skb
is not reset, and the size is not reset to zero in this case.

And since the skb is added again to the usbnet->done skb queue it is
accessing already freed memory, resulting in the BUG when freeing a
2nd time.  I therefore think the value 0x0000004000000001 show in the
trace is more or less random data.

Petko Manolov 323b34963d drivers: net: usb: pegasus: fix control urb submission
Pegasus driver used single callback for sync and async control URBs.
Special flags were employed to distinguish between both, but due to flawed
logic it didn't always work.  As a result of this change
[get|set]_registers() are now much simpler.  Async write is also leaner
and does not use single, statically allocated memory for usb_ctrlrequest,
which is another potential race when asynchronously submitting URBs.

The be2net driver had a bug fix in 'net' that overlapped with the VLAN

An IGB conflict existed because in 'net' the build_skb() support was
reverted, and in 'net-next' there was a comment style fix within that
code.

Several batman-adv conflicts were resolved by making sure that all
calls to batadv_is_my_mac() are changed to have a new bat_priv first
argument.

Eric Dumazet's TS ECR fix in TCP in 'net' conflicted with the F-RTO
rewrite in 'net-next', mostly overlapping changes.

Bjørn Mork cc6ba5fdaa net: qmi_wwan: prevent duplicate mac address on link (firmware bug workaround)
We normally trust and use the CDC functional descriptors provided by a
number of devices.  But some of these will erroneously list the address
reserved for the device end of the link.  Attempting to use this on
both the device and host side will naturally not work.

Work around this bug by ignoring the functional descriptor and assign a
random address instead in this case.

The bogus address is always the same, and matches the address
suggested by many devices as a default address.  It is likely a
hardcoded firmware default.

The circumstances where this bug has been observed indicates that
the trigger is related to timing or some other factor the host
cannot control. Repeating the exact same configuration sequence
that caused it to trigger once, will not necessarily cause it to
trigger the next time. Reproducing the bug is therefore difficult.
This opens up a possibility that the bug is more common than we can
confirm, because affected devices often will work properly again
after a reset.  A procedure most users are likely to try out before
reporting a bug.

Unconditionally rewriting the destination address if the first digit
of the received packet is 0, is considered an acceptable compromise
since we already have to inspect this digit.  The simplification will
cause unnecessary rewrites if the real address starts with 0, but this
is still better than adding additional tests for this particular case.

Bjørn Mork 6ff509af38 net: qmi_wwan: fixup missing ethernet header (firmware bug workaround)
A number of LTE devices from different vendors all suffer from the
same firmware bug: Most of the packets received from the device while
it is attached to a LTE network will not have an ethernet header. The
devices work as expected when attached to 2G or 3G networks, sending
an ethernet header with all packets.

This driver is not aware of which network the modem attached to, and
even if it were there are still some packet types which are always
received with the header intact.

All devices supported by this driver have severely limited
networking capabilities:
 - can only transmit IPv4, IPv6 and possibly ARP
 - can only support a single host hardware address at any time
 - will only do point-to-point communcation with the host

Because of this, we are able to reliably identify any bogus raw IP
packets by simply looking at the 4 IP version bits.  All we need to
do is to avoid 4 or 6 in the first digit of the mac address.  This
workaround ensures this, and fix up the received packets as necessary.

Given the distribution of the bug, it is believed that the source is
the chipset vendor.  The devices which are verified to be affected are:
 Huawei E392u-12 (Qualcomm MDM9200)
 Pantech UML290  (Qualcomm MDM9600)
 Novatel USB551L (Qualcomm MDM9600)
 Novatel E362    (Qualcomm MDM9600)

It is believed that the bug depend on firmware revision, which means
that possibly all devices based on the above mentioned chipset may be
affected if we consider all available firmware revisions.

The information about affected devices and versions is likely
incomplete.  As the additional overhead for packets not needing this
fixup is very small, it is considered acceptable to apply the
workaround to all devices handled by this driver.

The link change is detected via the interrupt pipe, and bulk
pipes are responsible for transfering packets, so it is reasonable
to stop bulk transfer after link is reported as off.

Two adavantages may be obtained with stopping bulk transfer
after link becomes off:

- USB bus bandwidth is saved(USB bus is shared bus except for
USB3.0), for example, lots of 'IN' token packets and 'NYET'
handshake packets is transfered on 2.0 bus.

- probabaly power might be saved for usb host controller since
cancelling bulk transfer may disable the asynchronous schedule of
host controller.

With this patch, when link becomes off, about ~10% performance
boost can be found on bulk transfer of anther usb device which
is attached to same bus with the usbnet device, see below
test on next-20130410:

- read from usb mass storage(Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0) on pandaboard
with below command after unplugging ethernet cable:

notifications like e.g. USB_CDC_NOTIFY_RESPONSE_AVAILABLE

Steve Glendinning 4c51e53689 smsc75xx: fix jumbo frame support
This patch enables RX of jumbo frames for LAN7500.

Previously the driver would transmit jumbo frames succesfully but
would drop received jumbo frames (incrementing the interface errors
count).

With this patch applied the device can succesfully receive jumbo
frames up to MTU 9000 (9014 bytes on the wire including ethernet
header).

Bjørn Mork 1e8bbe6cd0 net: cdc_ncm, cdc_mbim: allow user to prefer NCM for backwards compatibility
commit bd329e1 ("net: cdc_ncm: do not bind to NCM compatible MBIM devices")
introduced a new policy, preferring MBIM for dual NCM/MBIM functions if
the cdc_mbim driver was enabled.  This caused a regression for users
wanting to use NCM.

Devices implementing NCM backwards compatibility according to section
3.2 of the MBIM v1.0 specification allow either NCM or MBIM on a single
USB function, using different altsettings.  The cdc_ncm and cdc_mbim
drivers will both probe such functions, and must agree on a common
policy for selecting either MBIM or NCM.  Until now, this policy has
been set at build time based on CONFIG_USB_NET_CDC_MBIM.

Use a module parameter to set the system policy at runtime, allowing the
user to prefer NCM on systems with the cdc_mbim driver.

Bjørn Mork b701f16dd4 net: qmi_wwan: set correct altsetting for Gobi 1K devices
commit bd877e4 ("net: qmi_wwan: use a single bind function for
all device types") made Gobi 1K devices fail probing.

Using the number of endpoints in the default altsetting to decide
whether the function use one or two interfaces is wrong.  Other
altsettings may provide more endpoints.

With Gobi 1K devices, USB interface #3's altsetting is 0 by default, but
altsetting 0 only provides one interrupt endpoint and is not sufficent
for QMI.  Altsetting 1 provides all 3 endpoints required for qmi_wwan
and works with QMI. Gobi 1K layout for intf#3 is:

      Endpoint Descriptor:  Interrupt IN

Prior to commit bd877e4, we would call usbnet_get_endpoints
before giving up finding enough endpoints. Removing the early
endpoint number test and the strict functional descriptor
requirement allow qmi_wwan_bind to continue until
usbnet_get_endpoints has made the final attempt to collect
endpoints.  This restores the behaviour from before commit
bd877e4 without losing the added benefit of using a single bind
function.

The driver has always required a CDC Union functional descriptor
for two-interface functions. Using the existence of this
descriptor to detect two-interface functions is the logically
correct method.

Fixed the issue that the default MTU is not 1500.
Added ax88179_change_mtu function and enabled the hardware jumbo frame function to support an
MTU higher than 1500.
Fixed indentation and empty line coding style errors.
The _nopm version usb functions were added to access register in suspend and resume functions.
Serveral variables allocted dynamically were removed and replaced by stack variables.
ax88179_get_eeprom were modified from asix_get_eeprom in asix_common.

This patch adds a driver for ASIX's AX88179 family of USB 3.0/2.0
to gigabit ethernet adapters. It's based on the AX88xxx driver but
the usb commands used to access registers for AX88179 are completely different.
This driver had been verified on x86 system with AX88179/AX88178A and
Sitcomm LN-032 USB dongles.

Glen Turner 45af3fb4a0 usb/net/asix_devices: Add USBNET HG20F9 ethernet dongle
This USB ethernet adapter was purchased in anodyne packaging
from the computer store adjacent to linux.conf.au 2013 in
Canberra (Australia). A web search shows other recent
purchasers in Lancaster (UK) and Seattle (USA). Just like an
emergent virus, our age of e-commerce and airmail allows
underdocumented hardware to spread around the world instantly
using the vector of ridiculously low prices.

Paige Thompson, infected via eBay, discovered that the HG20F9
is a copy of the Asix 88772B; many viruses copy the RNA of
other viruses. See Paige's work at
<https://github.com/paigeadele/HG20F9>.
This patch uses her discovery to update the restructured Asix
driver in the current kernel.

Just as some viruses inhabit seemingly-healthy cells, the
HG20F9 uses the Vendor ID 0x066b assigned to Linksys Inc.
For the present there is no clash of Product ID 0x20f9.

The name of FEATURE_AUTOSUSPEND is very misleading and the actual
meaning is remote wakeup, but a device incapable of remote wakeup
still can support USB autosuspend under some situations, so rename

autosuspend, but breaks current runtime suspend, such as:

Bjørn Mork f350ca0370 net: cdc_ncm: fix probing of devices with multiple control interface altsettings
commit bd329e1 ("net: cdc_ncm: do not bind to NCM compatible MBIM devices")
added a test for a CDC MBIM altsetting, implementing the cdc_ncm part of
MBIM backward compatibility support.  This intentionally made the driver
behave differently for CDC NCM devices with 2 alternate settings for the
Communication interface, depending on whether or not CONFIG_USB_NET_CDC_MBIM
was enabled.  This is correct iff alternate setting #1 really *is* a MBIM
setting.  If not, then NCM probing will use a different altsetting than before,
possibly causing probing failures depending on CONFIG_USB_NET_CDC_MBIM.

Fix by setting the altsetting back to default after the test, restoring the
previous behaviour for non MBIM devices.

This bug causes probing of Huawei E3276 devices to fail when the MBIM driver
is enabled, because these devices have a second alternate setting with no CDC
functional descriptors.

Bjørn Mork bf414b369f net: usbnet: fix tx_dropped statistics
It is normal for minidrivers accumulating frames to return NULL
from their tx_fixup function. We do not want to count this as a
drop, or log any debug messages.  A different exit path is
therefore chosen for such drivers, skipping the debug message
and the tx_dropped increment.

The test for accumulating drivers was however completely bogus,
making the exit path selection depend on whether the user had
enabled tx_err logging or not. This would arbitrarily mess up
accounting for both accumulating and non-accumulating minidrivers,
and would result in unwanted debug messages for the accumulating
drivers.

Fix by testing for FLAG_MULTI_PACKET instead, which probably was
the intention from the beginning.  This usage match the documented
behaviour of this flag:

 Indicates to usbnet, that USB driver accumulates multiple IP packets.
 Affects statistic (counters) and short packet handling.

Bjørn Mork 70c37bf97f net: usbnet: prevent buggy devices from killing us
A device sending 0 length frames as fast as it can has been
observed killing the host system due to the resulting memory
pressure.

Temporarily disable RX skb allocation and URB submission when
the current error ratio is high, preventing us from trying to
allocate an infinite number of skbs.  Reenable as soon as we
are finished processing the done queue, allowing the device
to continue working after short error bursts.

Peter Korsgaard 6642f91c92 dm9601: support dm9620 variant
dm9620 is a newer variant of dm9601 with more features (usb 2.0, checksum
offload, ..), but it can also be put in a dm9601 compatible mode, allowing
us to reuse the existing driver.

This does mean that the extended features like checksum offload cannot be
used, but that's hardly critical on a 100mbps interface.

Bjørn Mork 844e88f044 net: cdc_mbim: send ZLP only for the specific buggy device
Reverting 328d7b8 and instead adding an exception for the
Sierra Wireless MC7710.

commit 328d7b8 (net: cdc_mbim: send ZLP after max sized NTBs)
added a workaround for an issue observed on one specific device.
Concerns were raised that this workaround adds a performance
penalty to all devices based on questionable, if not buggy,
behaviour of a single device:

 "If you add ZLP for NTBs of dwNtbOutMaxSize, you are heavily affecting CPU
  load, increasing interrupt load by factor of 2 in high load traffic
  scenario and possibly decreasing throughput for all other devices
  which behaves correctly."

 "The idea of NCM was to avoid extra ZLPs. If your transfer is exactly
  dwNtbOutMaxSize, it's known, you can submit such request on the receiver
  side and you do not need any EOT indicatation, so the frametime can be
  used for useful data."

Adding a device specific exception to prevent the workaround from
affecting well behaved devices.

The assumption here is that needing a ZLP is truly an *exception*.
We do not yet have enough data to verify this.  The generic
workaround in commit 328d7b8 should be considered acceptable despite
the performance penalty if the exception list becomes a maintainance
hassle.

Bjørn Mork 328d7b8a4a net: cdc_mbim: send ZLP after max sized NTBs
We normally avoid sending ZLPs by padding NTBs with a zero byte
if the NTB is shorter than dwNtbOutMaxSize, resulting in a short
USB packet instead of a ZLP.  But in the case where the NTB length
is exactly dwNtbOutMaxSize and this is an exact multiplum of
wMaxPacketSize, then we must send a ZLP.

This fixes an issue seen on a Sierra Wireless MC7710 device
where the transmission would fail whenever we ended up padding
the NTBs to max size.

Bjørn Mork 9992c2e2fb net: cdc_ncm: workaround for missing CDC Union
Adding support for the MBIM mode in some Sierra Wireless devices.

Some Sierra Wireless firmwares support CDC MBIM but have no CDC
Union funtional descriptor. This violates the MBIM specification,
but we can easily work around the bug by looking at the Interface
Association Descriptor instead.  This is most likely what
Windows uses too, which explains how the firmware bug has gone
unnoticed until now.

This change will not affect any currently supported device
conforming to the NCM or MBIM specifications, as they must have
the CDC Union descriptor.

This patch calls device_set_wakeup_enable() inside set_wol
callback, so that turning on WOL from user mode utility
can make the 'wakeup' of pegasus device to be enabled, then

Joe Millenbach 4f73bc4dd3 tty: Added a CONFIG_TTY option to allow removal of TTY
The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.
bloat-o-meter output is below.

The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer.  Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.

bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by
removing TTY.  The list is filtered to not show removed entries with awk
'$3 != "-"' as the list was very long.

tty_flip_buffer_push.

IOW we also closed all the races in drivers not using tty_port_tty_get
at all yet.

Also we move tty_flip_buffer_push declaration from include/linux/tty.h
to include/linux/tty_flip.h to all others while we are changing it
anyway.

Florian Fainelli f9a8f83b04 net: phy: remove flags argument from phy_{attach, connect, connect_direct}
The flags argument of the phy_{attach,connect,connect_direct} functions
is then used to assign a struct phy_device dev_flags with its value.
All callers but the tg3 driver pass the flag 0, which results in the
underlying PHY drivers in drivers/net/phy/ not being able to actually
use any of the flags they would set in dev_flags. This patch gets rid of
the flags argument, and passes phydev->dev_flags to the internal PHY
library call phy_attach_direct() such that drivers which actually modify
a phy device dev_flags get the value preserved for use by the underlying
phy driver.

This patch enables USB dynamic autosuspend for LAN9500A.  This
saves very little power in itself, but it allows power saving
in upstream hubs/hosts.

Steve Glendinning 481705a172 smsc75xx: only set mac address once on bind
This patch changes when we decide what the device's MAC address
is from per ifconfig up to once when the device is connected.

Without this patch, a manually forced device MAC is overwritten
on ifconfig down/up.  Also devices that have no EEPROM are
assigned a new random address on ifconfig down/up instead of
persisting the same one.

Steve Glendinning 068bb1a75a smsc95xx: fix smsc_crc return type
This patch fixes a bug introduced in bbd9f9e which could prevent
some wakeups from working correctly if multiple wol options were
selected.

This helper function calculates a 16-bit crc and shifts it into
either the high or low 16 bits of a u32 so the caller can or it
directly into place.  The function previously had a u16 return
type so would always have returned zero when filter was odd.

This patch ensures that if we fail to suspend the LAN9500 device
we call usbnet_resume before returning failure, instead of
leaving the usbnet driver in an unusable state.

Steve Glendinning eed9a72914 smsc95xx: fix suspend buffer overflow
This patch fixes a buffer overflow introduced by bbd9f9e, where
the filter_mask array is accessed beyond its bounds.

Updated to also add a check for kzalloc failure, as reported by
Bjorn Mork and Joe Perches.

These macros, while reducing the amount of code, hide flow control
and make the code more confusing to follow and review.  This patch
expands them.  It should have no functional effect on the driver.

Steve Glendinning 2305c54ffc smsc75xx: don't call usbnet_resume if usbnet_suspend fails
If usbnet_suspend returns an error we don't want to call
usbnet_resume to clean up, but instead just return the error.

If usbnet_suspend *does* succeed, and we have a problem further
on, the desired behaviour is still to call usbnet_resume
to clean up before returning.

Bjørn Mork ba695af067 net: qmi_wwan: add Huawei E173
The Huawei E173 is a QMI/wwan device which normally appear
as 12d1:1436 in Linux. The descriptors displayed in that
mode will be picked up by cdc_ether.  But the modem has
another mode with a different device ID and a slightly
different set of descriptors. This is the mode used by
Windows like this:
