The mount option access=client is overloaded as it assumes acl too.
Adding posixacl option to enable POSIX ACLs makes it explicit and clear.
Also it is convenient in the future to add other types of acls like richacls.
Ideally, the access mode 'client' should be just like V9FS_ACCESS_USER
except it underscores the location of access check.
Traditional 9P protocol lets the server perform access checks but with
this mode, all the access checks will be performed on the client itself.
Server just follows the client's directive.

dcache_inode_lock can be replaced with per-inode locking. Use existing
inode->i_lock for this. This is slightly non-trivial because we sometimes
need to find the inode from the dentry, which requires d_inode to be
stabilised (either with refcount or d_lock).
Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
Reduce some branches and memory accesses in dcache lookup by adding dentry
flags to indicate common d_ops are set, rather than having to check them.
This saves a pointer memory access (dentry->d_op) in common path lookup
situations, and saves another pointer load and branch in cases where we
have d_op but not the particular operation.
Patched with:
git grep -E '[.>]([[:space:]])*d_op([[:space:]])*=' | xargs sed -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)->d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\1, \2);/' -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)\.d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\&\1, \2);/' -i

RCU free the struct inode. This will allow:
- Subsequent store-free path walking patch. The inode must be consulted for
permissions when walking, so an RCU inode reference is a must.
- sb_inode_list_lock to be moved inside i_lock because sb list walkers who want
to take i_lock no longer need to take sb_inode_list_lock to walk the list in
the first place. This will simplify and optimize locking.
- Could remove some nested trylock loops in dcache code
- Could potentially simplify things a bit in VM land. Do not need to take the
page lock to follow page->mapping.
The downsides of this is the performance cost of using RCU. In a simple
creat/unlink microbenchmark, performance drops by about 10% due to inability to
reuse cache-hot slab objects. As iterations increase and RCU freeing starts
kicking over, this increases to about 20%.
In cases where inode lifetimes are longer (ie. many inodes may be allocated
during the average life span of a single inode), a lot of this cache reuse is
not applicable, so the regression caused by this patch is smaller.
The cache-hot regression could largely be avoided by using SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU,
however this adds some complexity to list walking and store-free path walking,
so I prefer to implement this at a later date, if it is shown to be a win in
real situations. I haven't found a regression in any non-micro benchmark so I
doubt it will be a problem.

Add a new lock, dcache_inode_lock, to protect the inode's i_dentry list

Change d_delete from a dentry deletion notification to a dentry caching
advise, more like ->drop_inode. Require it to be constant and idempotent,
and not take d_lock. This is how all existing filesystems use the callback
anyway.
This makes fine grained dentry locking of dput and dentry lru scanning
much simpler.

allowes open() O_DIRECT flags which would have failed otherwise.
In the non-cached mode, we shunt off direct read and write requests before
the VFS gets them, so this method should never be called.
Direct IO is not 'yet' supported in the cached mode. Hence when
this routine is called through generic_file_aio_read(), the read/write fails
with an error.

The current implementation of 9p client mkdir function does not
set the S_ISGID mode bit for the directory being created if the
parent directory has this bit set. This patch fixes this problem
so that the newly created directory inherits the gid from parent
directory and not from the process creating this directory, when
the S_ISGID bit is set in parent directory.

A patch was accepted recently for sending correct buffer size to p9stat_read.
We need a similar patch in v9fs_dir_readdir_dotl to send correct end of buffer
to p9dirent_read.

Current 9p client file write code does not check for RLIMIT_FSIZE resource.
This bug was found by running LTP test case for setrlimit. This bug is fixed
by calling generic_write_checks before sending the write request to the
server.
Without this patch: the write function is allowed to write above the
RLIMIT_FSIZE set by user.
With this patch: the write function checks for RLIMIT_SIZE and writes upto
the size limit.

before even we instantiate the fid in filp.

convert remaining ->clear_inode() to ->evict_inode()
Make ->drop_inode() just return whether inode needs to be dropped
fs/inode.c:clear_inode() is gone
fs/inode.c:evict() doesn't care about delete vs. non-delete paths now
...
Fix up trivial conflicts in fs/nilfs2/super.c
Replace inode_setattr with opencoded variants of it in all callers. This
moves the remaining call to vmtruncate into the filesystem methods where it
can be replaced with the proper truncate sequence.
In a few cases it was obvious that we would never end up calling vmtruncate
so it was left out in the opencoded variant:
spufs: explicitly checks for ATTR_SIZE earlier
btrfs,hugetlbfs,logfs,dlmfs: explicitly clears ATTR_SIZE earlier
ufs: contains an opencoded simple_seattr + truncate that sets the filesize just above
In addition to that ncpfs called inode_setattr with handcrafted iattrs,
which allowed to trim down the opencoded variant.
