Bill Paul 935e6be657 Fix a bug in the uhci driver that breaks large bulk IN transfers. The
uhci_check_intr() routine needs to be more careful about deciding when
the end of a transfer has been detected.

This allows me to remove the nasty workaround code from if_aue and if_cue.
Receive performance is now much better for these adapters (500KB/sec
vs. 350KB/sec).

Also removed unused KUE_CUTOFF define from if_kuereg.h.

John Baldwin c8bb85f758 Add the new cdldr CD bootstrap loader. This patch includes the following:
- Fix btxldr to preserve a NULL bootinfo pointer when it copies the kernel
  arguments.
- Add the cdldr bootstrap program. This program is tacked onto the
beginning of the standard 3rd stage boot loader (/boot/loader) to form
the CD boot loader (/boot/cdboot). When a CD is booted, the cdboot file
is copied into memory instead and executed. The cdldr stub emulates the
environment normally provided by boot2 and then starts the loader. This
booting method does not emulate a floppy drive, but boots directly off of
the CD. This should fix the problems some BIOS's have with emulating a
  2.88 MB floppy image.
- Add support to the loader to recognize that it has been booted by cdldr
instead of boot2 and use a simpler method of extracting the BIOS boot
  device.

John Baldwin c299f41fd9 Fix brokenness introduced with the PAGING conditional variable. The value
of %cr0 wasn't reloaded into %eax before being modified to turn protected
mode off if PAGING was not defined. The result was that the processor did
not exit protected mode, so when it tried to jump to segment 0x0 in the
next instruction to clear the prefetch cache like one should when leaving
protected mode, it actually tried to jump to a null selector, causing a
GPF.

Bruce Evans 6bfb820292 Quick fix for stack overflow when there are more than about 25 slices.
Using recursion to traverse the recursive data structure for extended
partitions was never good, but when slice support was implemented in
1995, the recursion worked for the default maximum number of slices
(32), and standard fdisk utilities didn't support creating more than
the default number. Even then, corrupt extended partitions could
cause endless recursion, because we attempt to check all slices, even
ones which we don't turn into devices.

The recursion has succumbed to creeping features. The stack requirements
for each level had grown to 204 bytes on i386's. Most of the growth was
caused by adding a 64-byte copy of the DOSpartition table to each frame.
The kernel stack size has shrunk to about 5K on i386's. Most of the
shrinkage was caused by the growth of `struct sigacts' by 2388 bytes
to support 128 signals.

Linux fdisk (a 1997 version at least) can now create 60 slices (4 standard
ones, 56 for logical drives within extended partitions, and it seems to
be leaving room to map the 4 BSD partitions on my test drive), and Linux
(2.2.29 and 2.3.35 at least) now reports all these slices at boot time.

The fix limits the recursion to 16 levels (4 + 16 slices) and recovers
32 bytes per level caused by gcc pessimizing for space. Switching to
a static buffer doesn't cause any problems due to recursion, since the
buffer is not passed down. Using a static buffer is wrong in general
because it requires the giant lock to protect it. However, this problem
is small compared with using a static buffer for dsname(). We sometimes
neglect to copy the result of dsname() before sleeping.

Also fixed slice names when we find more than MAX_SLICES (32) slices.
The number of the last slice found was not passed passed recursively.
The limit on the recursion now prevents finding more than 32 slices
with a standard extended partition data structure anyway.

Matthew Dillon c9ef26814c Fix catastrophic bug in NQNFS related to UDP mounts. The 'nqhost'
struct contains a major union for which lph_slp was being initialized
only for TCP connections, but accessed for all types of connections
leading to a crash. Also, a conditional controlling an nfs_slplock()
call contained an improper paren grouping, causing a second crash in
    the UDP case.

The nqhost structure has been reorganized and lph_slp has been made a
normal structural field rather then a union field, and properly
    initialized for all connection types.

Peter Wemm 931e989797 Always leave SP_DCEN on (monitor DCD). Otherwise the firmware *really*
does ignore DCD. Even TIOCMGET cannot read DCD as the firmware doesn't
report it. This has pretty interesting effects for ppp(8) which runs
in clocal mode and polls carrier (!). (Specialix's linux driver does
this too)

Also update the firmware to 3.0.6 for the SX cards, as apparently there
was a problem with floating (disconnected) DCD pins causing stray carrier
transitions, especially at port open time.

It seems to work here, and carrier loss is detected nearly immediately
rather than having to wait for a LQR timeout (a few minutes) before ppp(8)
gives up.

Bill Paul 1aebda0582 Regen. 2000-01-20 07:39:19 +00:00
Bill Paul a6d9a40e81 More USB ethernet tweaks:
- Sync ohci, uhci and usbdi modules with NetBSD in order to obtain the
  following improvements:
o New USBD_NO_TSLEEP flag can be used in place of UQ_NO_TSLEEP
quirk. This allows drivers to specify busy waiting only for
certain transfers (namely control transfers for reading/writing
          registers and stuff).
o New USBD_FORCE_SHORT_XFER flag can be used to deal with
devices like the ADMtek Pegasus that sense the end of bulk OUT
transfers in a special way (if a transfer is exactly a multiple
of 64 bytes in size, you need to send an extra empty packet
          to terminate the transfer).
o usbd_open_pipe_intr() now accepts an interval argument which
can be used to change the rate at which the interrupt callback
routine is invoked. Specifying USBD_DEFAULT_INTERVAL uses the
value specified in the device's config data, but drivers can
          override it if needed.
- Change if_aue to use USBD_FORCE_SHORT_XFER for packet transmissions.
- Change if_aue, if_kue and if_cue to use USBD_NO_TSLEEP for all
control transfers. We no longer force the non-tsleep hack for
bulk transfers since these are done asynchronously anyway.
- Removed quirk entry fiddling from if_aue and if_kue since we don't
need it anymore now that we have the USBD_NO_TSLEEP flag.
- Tweak ulpt, uhid, ums and ukbd drivers to use the new arg to
  usbd_open_pipe_intr().
- Add a flag to the softc struct in the ethernet drivers to indicate
when a device has been detached, and use this flag to perform
tests to prevent the drivers from trying to do control transfers
if this is the case. This is necessary because calling if_detach()
with INET6 enabled will eventually result in a call to the driver's
ioctl() routine to delete the multicast groups on the interface,
which will result in attempts to perform control transfers. (It's
possible this also happens even without INET6 support enabled.) This
is pointless since we know that if the detach method has been called,
  the hardware has been unplugged.
- Changed watchdog timeout routines to just call the driver init routines
to initialize the device states without trying to close and re-open the
pipes. This is partly because we don't want to frob things at interrupt
context, but also because this doesn't seem to work right and I don't
want to panic the system just because a USB device may have stopped
  responding.
- Fix aue_rxeof() to be a little smarter about detecting when a double
transfer is needed. Unfortunately, the design of the chip makes it hard
to get this exactly right. Hopefully, this will go away once either
Nick or Lennart finds the bug in the uhci driver that makes this ugly
  hack necessary.
- Also sync usbdevs with NetBSD.

Kirk McKusick 4c6adb0622 Need to reorganize the flushing of directory entry (pagedep) dependencies
so that they never try to lock an inode corresponding to ".." as this
can lead to deadlock. We observe that any inode with an updated link count
is always pushed into its buffer at the time of the link count change, so
we do not need to do a VOP_UPDATE, but merely find its buffer and write it.
The only time we need to get the inode itself is from the result of a
mkdir whose name will never be ".." and hence locking such an inode will
never request a lock above us in the filesystem tree. Thanks to Brian
Fundakowski Feldman for providing the test program that tickled soft updates

IOERROR, and the device doesn't initialize.

Instead, check the bcdDevice revision code. We know this will be
different when the firmware is running, so if we detect the firmware's
code instead of the bare hardware's code, we skip the firmware load.

For example, when /etc/pccard.conf had ed0 in config line, but kernel
refused this name and said

devclass_alloc_unit: ed0 already exists, using next availale unit
number

Kernel used ed1 as device name and it did not match with config and
insert/remove lines. Fortunately, dhclient was called without args,
and it works, but if we wanted to use static IP address for PC-card,
it did not work.

This modification makes pccardd to execute insert/remove lines with

Mark Newton a2eddaf1c6 Fix handling of svr4_sigsets, which are implemented in SysVR4 as a sequence
of 4 longs used as a bitmask. sv4r4_sigfillset has been broken for a
while, probably since rev 1.5.

This patch fixes SVR4_NSIG (i.e.: sets it to the actual number of signals,
instead of the number of bits in the mask) because some SysVR4 clients
honestly seem to care about whether bits in the signal mask are set for
non-existant signals.

Additionally, the svr4_sigfillset macro has been replaced by a
fully fledged function, because the macro didn't actually work
(it returned an all-ones mask, but we don't want that: we want 0's
set where FreeBSD doesn't actually have a signal which is the same
as an SysVR4 signal, for example).

SysVR4 clients can now successfully ignore signals, although catching
them remains problematic (see commit log message for rev1.13 of
sys/i386/svr4/svr4_machdep.c for more info).

Mark Newton e88c343da8 Pre-freeze cleanups: Conditionalize debugging writes on DEBUG_SVR4,
eliminate warnings, etc.

Note that svr4_setcontext() and svr4_getcontext() currently don't work
correctly, which makes returning from signal handlers somewhat problematic
(for reference: the SysVR4 setcontext() and getcontext() syscalls behave
like a low-level version of setjmp() and longjmp(), in that they save and
restore process context. SysVR4 uses this to implement its signal handler
trampoline: The context which is saved before a signal handler is called
is restored by an implicit call to the setcontext() syscall when the signal
handler returns. That currently doesn't work right in this emulator,
although it used to).

I'm committing this anyway, with a caveat that it's buggy, so that I can
(a) note the bug for anyone who is wondering about it, and (b) get the
stuff I've done to improve (but not fix) the situation in the tree before
4.0 is released. If I have time to fix it totally RSN I'll talk to Jordan
to see if I can bend him into letting me commit a bugfix :-)

Note that the situation now is somewhat better than it was yesterday
anyway, because I've fixed the handling of svr4_sigsets which previously
was causing signal handlers to not get called at all. Stay tuned for
an upcoming commit to svr4_signal.c...

Kazutaka YOKOTA 2b944ee2b9 This is the 3rd stage of syscons code reorganization.
- Split terminal emulation code from the main part of the driver so
that we can have alternative terminal emulator modules if we like in

- Put sysmouse related code in a separate file, thus, simplifying the
main part of the driver.

As some files are added to the source tree, you need to run config(8)

You shouldn't see any functional change by this commit; this is only
internal code reorganization.

Peter Wemm a9d565fcd2 Don't do device_set_desc() until after checking for PnP probes. Otherwise
things like sound cards can get called "Parallel port". A note to the
unwary; the isa-pnp devices in the system are probed like PCI - each
device ID is passed to *all* isa probe routines to find the best match.
If the driver is not prepared to deal with this, it must abort in this
scenario or it will try and claim all PnP devices.

Fix a long standing bug in the error recovery strategy. In order
to keep recovery simple, we freeze the SIMQ, stopping the XPT from
submitting new requests. Unfortunately, we also will freeze the
SIMQ if bus_dmamap_load blocks or we run out of controller resources.
On cards with limited resources it was possible to freeze the
SIM a second time and never unfreeze it. Now we more carefully
track our exception state so we never freeze the SIMQ more than
	once.

Don't rely on pointers fitting in a 32bit field stored in the
per-transaction data structures on the card. Use an index to
an array of transaction mapping structures instead. This should
allow this driver to work on the Alpha.

Deal with the ASC3030 which is almost idistinguishable from the
ASC3050. Unfortunately the ASC3030 does not work at Ultra speeds,
so if we can't find an eeprom, we must assume that ultra is disabled.
The SIIG cards using the 3030 do not have eeproms. As a side effect,
we now honor the ultra disable bit in the eeprom if it is present.

Don't bother attempting to write corrected eeprom data back to the
eeprom. We can function just fine if the data is corrupted and
I'd rather not risk messing up the user's eeprom.

Modify the interrupt handler to catch latched external bus rests.

Dynamically determine the maximum number of S/G elements we can
map at a single time. The nature of the firmware interface for
these cards makes this value dependent on the number of "queues"
	the card can support.

Bill Paul 0177987224 Add device driver support for USB ethernet adapters based on the CATC
USB-EL1202A chipset. Between this and the other two drivers, we should
have support for pretty much every USB ethernet adapter on the market.
The only other USB chip that I know of is the SMC USB97C196, and right
now I don't know of any adapters that use it (including the ones made
by SMC :/ ).

Note that the CATC chip supports a nifty feature: read and write combining.
This allows multiple ethernet packets to be transfered in a single USB
bulk in/out transaction. However I'm again having trouble with large
bulk in transfers like I did with the ADMtek chip, which leads me to
believe that our USB stack needs some work before we can really make
use of this feature. When/if things improve, I intend to revisit the
aue and cue drivers. For now, I've lost enough sanity points.

Nicolas Souchu 0f210c922b Port of ppbus standalone framework to the newbus system.
Note1: the correct interrupt level is invoked correctly for each driver.
For this purpose, drivers request the bus before being able to
call BUS_SETUP_INTR and BUS_TEARDOWN_INTR call is forced by the ppbus
core when drivers release it. Thus, when BUS_SETUP_INTR is called
at ppbus driver level, ppbus checks that the caller owns the
bus and stores the interrupt handler cookie (in order to unregister
       it later).

Printing is impossible while plip link is up is still TRUE.
vpo (ZIP driver) and lpt are make in such a way that
using the ZIP and printing concurrently is permitted is also TRUE.

Note2: specific chipset detection is not done by default. PPC_PROBE_CHIPSET
is now needed to force chipset detection. If set, the flags 0x40
       still avoid detection at boot.

Port of the pcf(4) driver to the newbus system (was previously directly
connected to the rootbus and attached by a bogus pcf_isa_probe function).

Kirk McKusick 1c2ceb2880 Because cylinder group blocks are now written in background,
it is no longer sufficient to get a lock on a buffer to know
that its write has been completed. We have to first get the
lock on the buffer, then check to see if it is doing a
background write. If it is doing background write, we have
to wait for the background write to finish, then check to see
if that fullfilled our dependency, and if not to start another
write. Luckily the explanation is longer than the fix.
2000-01-13 07:20:01 +00:00
Kirk McKusick 94313add1f A panic occurs during an fsync when a dirty block associated with
a vnode has not been written (which would clear certain of its
dependencies). The problems arises because fsync with MNT_NOWAIT
no longer pushes all the dirty blocks associated with a vnode. It
skips those that require rollbacks, since they will just get instantly
dirty again. Such skipped blocks are marked so that they will not be
skipped a second time (otherwise circular dependencies would never
clear). So, we fsync twice to ensure that everything will be written
at least once.
