Russ Cox ebd27d62fd time tests; sort -nr times.out | sed 10q is illuminating. 
cut the slowest tests  down from a few seconds
to under half a second.

Rob Pike c45d2a767c simplify flag interface. no more BVal etc. you just get a pointer.
