# Lemmy
**Lemmy** is an open-source, decentralized, and federated alternative to platforms like Reddit. It allows users to create, share, and discuss content in community-based forums called *communities*. Unlike Reddit, Lemmy is part of the **Fediverse**—a network of interconnected servers (also known as *instances*) that communicate using the **ActivityPub** protocol.
