The previous commit introduced ---merge-base a way to take the diff
between the working tree or index and the merge base between an arbitrary
commit and HEAD. It makes sense to extend this option to support the
case where two commits are given too and behave in a manner identical to
`git diff A...B`.
Introduce the --merge-base flag as an alternative to triple-dot
notation. Thus, we would be able to write the above as
`git diff --merge-base A B`.

Asciidoctor versions v1.5.7 or later print the following warning while
building the documentation:
ASCIIDOC git-diff-tree.xml
asciidoctor: WARNING: diff-format.txt: line 2: unterminated listing block
This highlights an issue (even with older Asciidoctor versions) where
the "Raw output format" header is not rendered as a header, and the
rest of the document is rendered in monospace. This is not caused by
'diff-format.txt' in itself, but rather by 'git-diff-tree.txt'
including 'pretty-formats.txt' and 'diff-format.txt' on subsequent
lines, while the former happens to end with monospace-formatted
example commands.
Fix this by inserting an empty line between the two include::
directives.
The page rendered with AsciiDoc doesn't have this formatting issue.

Output from "diff --cc" did not show the original paths when the
merge involved renames. A new option adds the paths in the
original trees to the output.
* en/combined-all-paths:
log,diff-tree: add --combined-all-paths option
The combined diff format for merges will only list one filename, even if
rename or copy detection is active. For example, with raw format one
might see:
::100644 100644 100644 fabadb8cc95eb04866510 MM describe.c
::100755 100755 100755 52b7a2d 6d1ac04 d2ac7d7 RM bar.sh
::100644 100644 100644 e07d6c5 9042e82 ee91881 RR phooey.c
This doesn't let us know what the original name of bar.sh was in the
first parent, and doesn't let us know what either of the original names
of phooey.c were in either of the parents. In contrast, for non-merge
commits, raw format does provide original filenames (and a rename score
to boot). In order to also provide original filenames for merge
commits, add a --combined-all-paths option (which must be used with
either -c or --cc, and is likely only useful with rename or copy
detection active) so that we can print tab-separated filenames when
renames are involved. This transforms the above output to:
::100644 100644 100644 fabadb8cc95eb04866510 MM desc.c desc.c desc.c
::100755 100755 100755 52b7a2d 6d1ac04 d2ac7d7 RM foo.sh bar.sh bar.sh
::100644 100644 100644 e07d6c5 9042e82 ee91881 RR fooey.c fuey.c phooey.c
Further, in patch format, this changes the from/to headers so that
instead of just having one "from" header, we get one for each parent.
For example, instead of having
--- a/phooey.c
+++ b/phooey.c
we would see
--- a/fooey.c
--- a/fuey.c
+++ b/phooey.c

The documentation saying that diff-tree didn't support anything except
literal prefixes hasn't been true since
d38f28093e ("tree_entry_interesting(): support wildcard matching",
2010-12-15), but this documentation was not updated at the time.
Since this command uses pathspecs like most other commands, there's no
need to show examples of how the various "cmd <revs> <paths>"
invocations work.
Furthermore, the "git diff-tree --abbrev 5319e4" example shown here
never worked. We'd ended up with that through a combination of
62b42d3487 ("docs: fix some antique example output", 2011-05-26) and
ac4e086929 ("Adjust core-git documentation to more recent Linus GIT.",
2005-05-05), but "git diff-tree <tree>" was always invalid.

When formatted as a man page, 1st section header is always in upper
case even if we write it otherwise. Make all 1st section headers
uppercase to keep it close to the final output.
This does affect html since case is kept there, but I still think it's
a good idea to maintain a consistent style for 1st section headers.
Some sections perhaps should become second sections instead, where
case is kept, and for better organization. I will update if anyone has
suggestions about this.
While at there I also make some header more consistent (e.g. examples
vs example) and fix a couple minor things here and there.

The point of these sections is generally to:
1. Give credit where it is due.
2. Give the reader an idea of where to ask questions or
file bug reports.
But they don't do a good job of either case. For (1), they
are out of date and incomplete. A much more accurate answer
can be gotten through shortlog or blame. For (2), the
correct contact point is generally git@vger, and even if you
wanted to cc the contact point, the out-of-date and
incomplete fields mean you're likely sending to somebody
useless.
So let's drop the fields entirely from all manpages except
git(1) itself. We already point people to the mailing list
for bug reports there, and we can update the Authors section
to give credit to the major contributors and point to
shortlog and blame for more information.
Each page has a "This is part of git" footer, so people can
follow that to the main git manpage.
The documentation was quite inconsistent when spelling 'git cmd' if it
only refers to the program, not to some specific invocation syntax:
both 'git-cmd' and 'git cmd' spellings exist.
The current trend goes towards dashless forms, and there is precedent
in 647ac70 (git-svn.txt: stop using dash-form of commands.,
2009-07-07) to actively eliminate the dashed variants.
Replace 'git-cmd' with 'git cmd' throughout, except where git-shell,
git-cvsserver, git-upload-pack, git-receive-pack, and
git-upload-archive are concerned, because those really live in the
$PATH.
This includes mentioning the initial hash output of diff-tree, and
changes the header to "raw output format" which is more descriptive.

When feeding trees on the command line, you can give exactly two
trees, not three nor one; --stdin now supports this "two tree" form on
its input, in addition to accepting lines with one or more commits.
When diffing trees (either specified on the command line or from the
standard input), the -s, -v, --pretty, --abbrev-commit, --encoding,
--no-commit-id, and --always options are ignored, since they do not
apply to trees; and the -m, -c, and --cc options are ignored since
they would be meaningful only with three or more trees, which is not
supported (yet).

Long time ago, the feature of "diff-tree --stdin" to take a commit and its
parents on one line was broken, and did not support the common:
git rev-list --parents $commits... -- $paths... |
git diff-tree --stdin -v -p
usage pattern by Porcelains properly. For diff-tree to talk sensibly
about commits, it needs to see commits, not just trees; the code was fixed
to take list of commits on the standard input in 1.2.0.
However we left the documentation stale for a long time, until Karl
Hasselström finally noticed it very recently.

Since the git-* commands are not installed in $(bindir), using
"git-command <parameters>" in examples in the documentation is
not a good idea. On the other hand, it is nice to be able to
refer to each command using one hyphenated word. (There is no
escaping it, anyway: man page names cannot have spaces in them.)
This patch retains the dash in naming an operation, command,
program, process, or action. Complete command lines that can
be entered at a shell (i.e., without options omitted) are
made to use the dashless form.
The changes consist only of replacing some spaces with hyphens
and vice versa. After a "s/ /-/g", the unpatched and patched
versions are identical.

- Consistently use 'NOTE: ...' instead of '[ ... ]' for additional

- Fix ending '::' for description lists in OPTION section etc.
- Fix paragraphs in description lists ending up as preformated text.
- Always use listingblocks (preformatted text wrapped in lines with -----)
for examples that span empty lines, so they are put in only one HTML
block.
- Use '1.' instead of '(1)' for numbered lists.
- Fix linking to other GIT docs.
- git-rev-list.txt: put option descriptions in an OPTION section.

since 0.99.6 are:
(1) git-*-script are no more. The commands installed do not
have any such suffix so users do not have to remember if
something is implemented as a shell script or not.
(2) Many command names with 'cache' in them are renamed with
'index' if that is what they mean.

compatibility support is expected to be removed in the near

- clarify the semantics of -R. It is not "output in reverse";
rather, it is "I will feed diff backwards". Semantically
they are different when -C is involved.
- describe -O in usage strings of diff-* brothers. It was
implemented, documented but not described in usage text.
Also it adds -O to diff-helper. Like -S (and unlike -M/-C/-B),
this option can work on sanitized diff-raw output produced by
the diff-* brothers. While we are at it, the call it makes to
diffcore is cleaned up to use the diffcore_std() like everybody
