doc: replace "--" with {litdd} in credential-cache/fsmonitor Asciidoc renders `--` as em-dash. This is not appropriate for command names. It also breaks linkgit links to these commands. Fix git-credential-cache--daemon and git-fsmonitor--daemon. The latter was added 3248486920 (fsmonitor: document builtin fsmonitor, 2022-03-25) and included several links. A check for broken links in the HTML docs turned this up. Manually inspecting the other Documentation/git-*--*.txt files turned up the issue in git-credential-cache--daemon. While here, quote `git credential-cache--daemon` in the synopsis to match the vast majority of our other documentation. credentials: add "cache" helper If you access repositories over smart-http using http authentication, then it can be annoying to have git ask you for your password repeatedly. We cache credentials in memory, of course, but git is composed of many small programs. Having to input your password for each one can be frustrating. command-list: mention git-credential-* helpers These commands were never added to the command-list. Adding them makes "make check-docs" run without complaint. While we're at it, let's capitalize the first letter of their one-line summaries to match the rest of the git manpages. The credential-cache--daemon command is somewhat special. It is already ignored by check-docs because it contains a "--", marking it as a non-interesting implementation detail. It is, in fact, documented, but since the documentation basically just redirects you to a more appropriate command anyway, let's explicitly omit it so it is not mentioned in git(1). NOTE: You probably don't want to invoke this command yourself; it is
started automatically when you use linkgit:git-credential-cache[1].
This command listens on the Unix domain socket specified by `<socket>`
for `git-credential-cache` clients. Clients may store and retrieve
credentials. Each credential is held for a timeout specified by the
client; once no credentials are held, the daemon exits.
credential-cache: close stderr in daemon process If the stderr of "git credential-cache" is redirected to a pipe, the reader on the other end of a pipe may be surprised that the pipe remains open long after the process exits. This happens because we may auto-spawn a daemon which is long-lived, and which keeps stderr open. We can solve this by redirecting the daemon's stderr to /dev/null once we are ready to go into our event loop. We would not want to do so before then, because we may want to report errors about the setup (e.g., failure to establish the listening socket). This does mean that we will not report errors we encounter for specific clients. That's acceptable, as such errors should be rare (e.g., clients sending buggy requests). However, we also provide an escape hatch: if you want to see these later messages, you can provide the "--debug" option to keep stderr open. If the `--debug` option is specified, the daemon does not close its
stderr stream, and may output extra diagnostics to it even after it has
begun listening for clients.
